"I was looking down the barrel of a gun:" Shots fired at driver on Miller Park Way

WEST MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- It's being called a case of road rage. Investigators are learning more about a shooting that happened during the morning rush hour on Monday, August 18th -- near Miller Park. Apparently a motorcyclist got into an argument with another driver -- and pulled out a gun.

"Before I knew it, I was looking down the barrel of a gun," said the man who was fired upon -- who did not want to be identified.

The seat where his daughter usually sits is now covered in glass. The window she looks out -- is gone.

James Norman

Deputies say it shattered when 35-year-old James Norman allegedly pulled the trigger of a 40-caliber handgun. It was pointed at a man who didn't want to be identified.

"You know, I was going to work. I'm getting ready to get on 94 going east and he's still going back and forth," said the driver.

The driver says he dropped off his daughter just before 7:30 a.m. Monday. He first noticed the motorcyclist near the Lisbon Ave. entrance ramp.

"The suspect was on Harley. He accelerated quickly behind the victim, confirmed by eyewitnesses, in an apparent road rage incident," said Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke.

Norman sped off but eventually crashed near the stadium interchange. Responding officers say they saw Norman toss away his handgun. He was arrested a short time later.

"The suspect has an extensive criminal history including drug possession, based on the information we have, making him a convicted felon," said Sheriff Clarke.

Sheriff Clarke anticipates Norman will face charges of attempted homicide, felon in possession of a firearm and potentially OWI.
