Group of female GOP lawmakers want AG endorsement retracted

MADISON (AP) — A group of female GOP lawmakers are demanding Emily's List retract its endorsement of Democratic attorney general hopeful Susan Happ.

Happ, who currently serves as Jefferson County district attorney, won Emily's List's endorsement in March. The Washington-based group helps elect Democratic women who support abortion rights.

Five female Republican legislators sent a letter Tuesday to Emily's List saying Happ doesn't deserve the endorsement. They pointed out Happ's office last year deferred prosecution of an alleged sex offender man after he bought Happ's house and she argued for a light sentence for a child molester while she was working as a defense attorney either years before she became a prosecutor.

The legislators accused Happ of putting women and children in danger.

Happ's campaign and Emily's list didn't immediately return email messages.
