Gabrielle Giffords delivers pledge of allegiance at DNC

Charlotte, North Carolina (CNN) -- In what is sure to be an emotional moment for the tens of thousands of delegates and attendees, former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords will deliver the pledge of allegiance at Thursday's session of the Democratic National Convention.

"Gabby will attend the convention tonight and will deliver the pledge of allegiance," Giffords' spokeswoman Hayley Zachary told CNN.

Giffords, who was seriously wounded in a Jan. 2011 shooting in her hometown of Tucson at a constituents' event, recently moved back there from Houston to continue her recovery.

Giffords and her husband Mark Kelly arrived in Charlotte on Wednesday.

The Hill newspaper first reported Giffords' involvement.
