"Fred Usinger Day:" Free sausage for all at Milwaukee's Old German Beer Hall

MILWAUKEE -- Tuesday, February 23rd is "Fred Usinger Day" in Milwaukee, and to celebrate, Milwaukee's Old German Beer Hall is offering FREE Usinger sausage for all until 8:00 p.m., while supplies last.

Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett declared February 23rd Fred Usinger Day in Milwaukee in recognition of Usinger's great legacy in the community.

Usinger "wurstmachers" have been making superlative quality sausage on Milwaukee's Old World Third Street since 1880.

The site of the original store is located directly across the street from the Old German Beer Hall.

The original family recipes have never been altered in order to meet a competitive price. To the Usinger sausage makers, it is a matter of pride to maintain their tradition of excellence.

To mark the occasion, on Tuesday, the Usinger store will feature specials on brats, wieners, Braunschweiger, chicken sausages, sauerkraut and more from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

This year marks the 9th annual celebration of Fred Usinger Day at the Old German Beer Hall.

One free Usinger sausage per person will be given out at the Old German Beer Hall on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., while supplies last.

At 6:00 p.m. Frederick “Fritz” Usinger IV will tap a wooden keg of Hofbräu Original Lager beer. Those in attendance will have the chance to sample the full bodied lager, which typifies the Münchener Helles style of beer.

“The Usinger Family and their sausage are iconic of city's history. They embody the perseverance and success of German immigrants in Milwaukee," said Hans Weissgerber III, founder of the Old German Beer Hall.

Usinger's commitment to quality and excellence has earned them the distinction as an official supplier to Hofbräuhaus of America and their beer halls across America.

The Old German Beer Hall, located at 1009 N. Old World Third Street (across from Usinger's) was founded in 2005 as Munich style beer hall serving the beers of the Royal Hofbräu Munich Brewery.
