Fire crews battle heat while knocking down Waukesha house fire

WAUKESHA (WITI) -- Firefighters battled the heat and humidity on Thursday, July 18th as they responded to a house fire at 405 E. Main Street.

It happened just after 10:00 a.m., and the fire broke out inside a two story, single family home.

Fire officials say everyone was able to escape the fire safely, but crews had to cut a hole into the home's roof to stop the spread of the fire, and to allow smoke and heat to escape from the structure.

Fire officials say the estimated property damage total is approximately $50,000.

Fire crews were rotated more frequently than normal due to the extreme air temperatures, and officials say no firefighter injuries occurred.

One resident of the home had to be treated at the scene for a heat-related issue.

Officials say the fire started in the attic.
