Deadline to apply for city's 100 new taxi permits is Friday

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A tinge of anticipation and excitement about the potential opportunity to be a new small business owner is in the air this week, as the filing deadline for those wishing to declare their intent to apply for one of the city’s new 100 taxi cab permits is this Friday, February 28th.

As of the noon hour on Tuesday, February 25th, 921 people have declared their intent to apply for one of the new taxi cab licenses with the License Division of the City Clerk’s Office.

At 11 a.m. on Monday, March 17, 2014, the City Clerk’s Office will hold a lottery to determine which applicants are allowed to continue in the licensing process.

The lottery will be held in the third floor Council Chamber at City Hall, 200 E. Wells St.

Alderman Robert J. Bauman, chair of the Public Works Committee, said the city’s License Division (Room 105 at City Hall) will continue taking in-person notice of intent to apply for taxi cab licenses and will also continue licensing certified taxi cab affiliations through 4:30 p.m. Friday.
