Corporate executives blame election for slow sales leading up to November 8th

In the weeks leading up to election day Tuesday, November 8th, corporate executives blamed the election for slow sales on everything from donuts to major appliances.

Since the beginning of October, executives at 80 U.S. companies have mentioned the election during quarterly conference calls with analysts and investors.

That's according to a Reuters analysis of call transcripts.

The remarks often came in response to questions about whether the campaign has had an impact on profits.

Stocks on Wall Street opened slightly lower Tuesday, after Monday saw the biggest surge since March.
