Concern over counterfeit tickets to charity event arises

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The fourth annual Young Milwaukee Holiday Gala benefiting Milwaukee's Journey House is taking place Friday evening, December 13th -- but some are concerned the event is becoming a victim of its own success.

1,000 tickets for the gala at the Milwaukee Athletic Club sold out within days, however counterfeits have been turning up.

"You buy your ticket online, you print it and when you bring it in tonight, we'll scan it and you're admitted in. They only issue with a system like that is you can print 50 if you want to," said Mike Kleber with Young Milwaukee.

Kleber says there was also concern over scammers selling tickets to the gala on Craigslist.

"We found some people were going to sell our tickets for a sizable gain," Kleber said. "Kudos to us for throwing a great event but on the backside, we don't want to see anybody profiting from kids."

Monetary donations or gifts for the children at Milwaukee's Journey House can be dropped off at Journey House Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 8:30 p.m.
