Cedarburg students will be randomly alcohol tested at prom

CEDARBURG (AP) -- Cedarburg School District is joining a growing number of school districts randomly checking students for alcohol at prom and other dances.

Superintendent Daryl Herrick says random Breathalyzer tests were discussed even before police issued citations for drinking to some students at a Cedarburg High School dance on Feb. 18.

Germantown High School officials have randomly checked students for alcohol at dances for the past five or six years. Principal Joel Farren says parents think "it's the greatest idea in the world.''

Germantown students caught drinking at school-sponsored events are subject to an expulsion hearing.
