Alert citizen flags down officers, helps stop 17-year-old boy from stealing young girl's cell phone

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police say an alert citizen was able to help officer stop a robbery in progress on the city's south side on Sunday, April 26th.

Officers were on patrol in the 2200 block of S. 16th Street just after 2:00 p.m. when they were flagged down by a woman who said a young girl was getting robbed near the corner of S. 16th Street and W. Grant Street.

The victim, a 15-year-old Milwaukee girl, told officers that she was riding her bicycle when the suspect approached her, demanded her cell phone and tried to grab it from her.

The victim feared that the suspect had a weapon and he was still trying to take the phone when officers arrived.

The suspect, a 17-year-old Milwaukee male, was taken into custody.

Charges will be presented to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office in the coming days.
