A very happy ending for "Harvard" -- a dog beaten and choked in the street on Father's Day

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A happy ending for a dog police say was beaten and choked in the middle of the street in Cleveland, Ohio early Sunday morning, June 15th.

Peris Rice

Police have arrested Peris Rice on charges of cruelty to animals.

According to FOX6's sister station, FOX8 in Cleveland, witnesses say they saw Rice beating the dog with a leather belt, and then striking the dog in the face with a brick before choking him.

FOX8 reports the dog had injuries to its face, legs and paws -- and when police arrived on scene, the dog jumped into the front seat of a squad car.

Now, FOX8 reports there's a happy ending.

The police officer who has been fostering the dog has decided to adopt him, and name him Harvard.
