A little bit of everything at 1st ever Fantasticon

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Superheros and villains poured into Milwaukee this weekend, but they weren't there to celebrate Halloween. It was Milwaukee's very first "Fantasticon."

For some, it was an experience out of this world.

"It's fun there are some neat artists here," said Wade Woelfle, Fantasticon enthusiast.

For 3 days, thousands of fans gathered at the first Fantasticon Convention.

"Fantasticon is an all-encompassing adventure, comic book fantasy, horror, sci-fi, anime. Milwaukee had been without a convention in so long we felt this was the perfect place for it," said Lisa Dousharm, with Fantasticon.

Enthusiasts got to experience a little bit of everything.

"They are probably seeing things you would probably not see anywhere else," said Dousharm.

From collectible comic books.

"They date actually back to the 40's and 50's. We have all the silver age comics, that's the first Spiderman, and all the avengers, and the wolverine, and marvel, and superheros," said Steven Khan, vendor.

All the way to classic novelties.

"Neat things to see and buy and fun games to play," said Woelfle.

At the event, there were hands-on exhibits. You can even custom-make your own action figure. It's a unique opportunity for these folks to share their passion.

"It's nice to know you have other people to talk with and relate to," said Meena Alghetta, Fantasticon enthusiast.

For fans like Meena Alghetta, it was a must to be creative and get into character.

"We really enjoy making the costumes and dressing up, it's a really fun experience for both of us," said Alghetta.

The event was Milwaukee's first comic book and pop culture convention and the family friendly celebration filled a niche as folks got immersed in their passions.

"It really kind of makes you feel at home," said Alghetta.

"We would hope it comes back again here, it's cool," said Woelfle.

Celebrity guests like actor, John Barrowman, from Dr. Who cozied up to the crowd for a Q&A. Autographs and photographs were also available.
