9-year-old creates website to save stray pets
WEST ALLIS (WITI) -- How hard is it to make your own website? Just ask 9-year-old Vincent Olson from West Allis. The fourth-grader created a website that's receiving hits from all over the country, and his website helps save stray animals.
Vincent says the idea came to him while at Underwood Elementary School in Wauwatosa. "I was reading a Time for Kids article at school, and it was about an 11-year-old making Windows7 for the school, and I was thinking all night, 'what could I do?'" Vincent said.
Vincent says he went home and Googled "how to make a website." Mixing his love of animals and the need to help strays, the 9-year-old created Kids Helping Abandoned Pets. The site asks anyone who sees an animal who needs help, to contact him. Vincent says he will take care of the rest. "If anyone sees a dog that is stray, call me and I'll call MADACC. MADACC stands for Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Center," Vincent said.
The website was made as his mom watched over his shoulder. "I was really proud of him. He wants to do something that is going to make a difference in the community," Mary Olson said.
The website also asks visitors to sign the guest book and make a pledge that you will help stray animals if you see one. So far, the guest book has pledges from Milwaukee, California, Massachusetts, Utah and even Taiwan!
