Milwaukee triple shooting, man killed, 2 hurt near 28th and Roosevelt

A Milwaukee man, 21, was killed in a triple shooting Monday, May 30 near 28th and Roosevelt.

Police said the three men were outside when someone in a passing vehicle fired shots, hitting the men. A 23-year-old was taken to the hospital, while a 20-year-old was treated at the scene.

According to MPD's call log, officers were sent to 28th Street Sunday night for shots fired before officers returned around 11 a.m. Monday to find the 21-year-old dead.

One of the men injured in the shooting spoke with FOX6 News. His family thinks it all may be related and one big misunderstanding.

"Nobody is doing nothing," said Charles Walker.

Johnny Polk

Walker said he's worried for his wife. They've lived along 28th Street for 41 years. On Monday morning, she was outside when their block turned into a crime scene.

"When I heard gunshots, I did like everybody else – hid," said Walker. "Then I stepped out and we saw a body laying across the street."

Family identified the man killed as Johnny Polk. They said he was the type of man who was always willing to help and that the shooting may have all been a big misunderstanding with a group of neighbors down the street.

Polk's cousin, who was with him when this happened and was grazed by bullets himself, didn’t want to speak on camera but shared more about what happened. He said a car was doing down the alley straight toward where they were sitting in his own car. He said someone was hanging out of every window of that car, firing shots.

The shots killed Polk and injured the other two men.

"Murder, murder, murder. Oh, 15 people shot this weekend. Twelve people shot this weekend. Murder, murder, murder, murder," said Walker. "Now, it’s right here in my own neighborhood."

Walker's watched a lot change over the last 40 years. From what he's seen, he said not enough is being done.

"To me, nobody cares because there’s got to be something that can be done against all of these guns running around the city," said Walker.
