26-year-old man arrested after standoff in Racine
RACINE -- Racine police arrested a 26-year-old man after a standoff that lasted nearly five hours.
Police say it happened around 5:00 a.m. Saturday across the street from Wheaton-Franciscan in Racine. Police got a call about a man firing a gun inside a home on Spring Street.
The man refused to talk to police. Police say the man eventually surrendered peacefully around 9:30 a.m.
Neighbors were alerted during the incident.
"The policeman knocked on the door and said 'we're in a tactical situation - we want you to stay away from the windows and stuff, and it'd be better if you go in the basement,'" neighbor Mary Gelhoff said.
