Drivers take note: Long-term ramp closures scheduled for WIS 67 to I-94 east

Beginning the morning of Tuesday, July 5, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation is scheduled to close the WIS 67 northbound and southbound entrance ramps to I-94 east.These closures are necessary to continue the next phase of the WIS 67 Interchange reconstruction project and are scheduled to reopen mid-to-late August.

MILWAUKEE -- To accommodate heavy traffic expected during the three-day Fourth of July holiday weekend, construction on most major highway projects in Wisconsin will be suspended at noon on Friday, July 1 and will not resume until Tuesday, July 5, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.However, motorists may still encounter narrow lanes and lane shifts, which require reduced speeds in work zones, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT).“Peak travel times are expected between approximately noon and 8 p.m. on Friday and Monday,” says Don Greuel with WisDOT’s Project Services Section. “Traffic will be heavy throughout the holiday period, so driving through work zones will require caution and patience.

Ribbon cutting signals reopening of on-ramp to eastbound I-94 from 84th Street

MILWAUKEE -- The Wisconsin Department of Transportation held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday morning, June 23rd -- at the new on-ramp from 84th Street to eastbound I-94.The event marked the completion of what is called the "Core 1 segment" of the Zoo Interchange project.With the completion of the work at 84th Street, the segment of I-94 east of 90th Street will be complete and in its final configuration.

MCTS driver hailed for helping 15-year-old girl get away from harassing man

MILWAUKEE -- A Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS) bus driver is being recognized for helping a 15-year-old girl escape from a man who was harassing and following her.MCTS officials say Sharon Chambers was about to pull away from a bus stop at Sherman and Silver Spring on Monday morning, June 13th when she noticed a girl waving in her direction."I thought she was just running to catch the bus, but as she walked in front of the bus I noticed she was crying," Chambers was quoted in a news release. "I told her to get on the bus and let her know no one was going to mess with her on my bus."Chambers drove away from the area in case the man was still following the girl.

Closed-door meeting set for Friday between Uber, airport officials on proposed new rules

MILWAUKEE -- An Uber spokeswoman tells FOX6 News a closed-door meeting is scheduled for Friday, June 10th involving Uber officials and those with General Mitchell International Airport.This, as a 90-day pilot program period involving Uber and Lyft services at the airport is set to expire on June 15th.The Uber spokeswoman tells FOX6 News at this point, there is no deal in place between the airport and Uber beyond the 15th of June.According to the Milwaukee Business Journal, airport officials have presented new rules that Uber and Lyft will have to follow to pick up passengers from the airport to the Milwaukee County Board.The proposed new rules call for fees of $3 for each pick-up, and $125 per pick-up vehicle per year.

Short-term maintenance project on I-94 and Racine County K to begin June 14th

DOT officials warning drivers about additional lane closures on I-41/45 near Holy Hill this weekend

WASHINGTON COUNTY -- Officials with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation say there will be additional lane closures on southbound I-41/US 45, from Holy Hill Road to Freistadt Road, in Washington County on Friday evening, June 10th.DOT officials say these lane restrictions are necessary to facilitate paving operations.A double lane closure is scheduled for the evening hours of Friday to Saturday.

DOT: McKinley Avenue project to wrap up early; will be complete by June 7th

MILWAUKEE -- The McKinley Avenue project will be complete by the end of Tuesday June 7th, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.The last of the equipment is set to be removed from the work zone completing the work to relocate sewer lines that ran in the old freeway spur.
