Gallardo stifles Marlins in 6-1 Brewers win

MIAMI -- The Brewers are the hottest team in the National League, winning their fourth consecutive game Monday night, 6-1 in Miami.  There is no doubt that improved starting pitching in playing a big role in the improved team success of late.  Yovani Gallardo threw eight shutout innings against the Marlins, recording his 1000th career strikeout in the process.  The only other pitchers to strike out that many batters while wearing a Milwaukee uniform are Teddy Higuera and Ben Sheets.

The Crew had it working offensively, as well, collecting 16 hits. Jonathan Lucroy had four of them and Rickie Weeks had a solo homer.  He also made a handful of nice defensive plays in his home state.

Outfielder Ryan Braun did not play because of a sore thumb.
