Flooding in Milwaukee near 60th and Thurston

On Wednesday morning, FOX6 crews saw flooded streets in the area of 60th and Calumet and also near 58th and Thurston in Milwaukee.

The Milwaukee Fire Department said crews responded to approximately 50 calls for water rescues during Tuesday night's storms, which caused flash floods that left vehicles and people stranded in some areas.

An additional task force was specifically tasked with helping respond to water-related calls during Tuesday night's storms, the department said, so others would have the response capacity for non-weather emergencies.

MFD said motorists should avoid driving through standing water and stay clear of waterways, because drains are designed to rapidly move water away and can easily sweep people downstream.
