"We want our children to be safe:" Parents concerned after Kenosha basketball coach resigns amid investigation
KENOSHA (WITI) -- A coach at Indian Trail High School in Kenosha has resigned. That has some parents concerned, but others know little about what happened leading up to that resignation. That resignation comes following an alleged interaction between the coach and a student.
The identity of the coach and what that coach is accused of haven't been released -- but the alleged conduct is of great concern to some parents, though we're told only a few are familiar with the situation.
"We want our children to be safe at all times," Denise Jones said.
Jones, an Indian Trail High School parent says she's concerned about what she learned when she stopped by the school on Thursday, February 12th.
"I would like to know what's going on. I'm a little bit surprised, actually, that, you know, something is going on here. You know, we don't never hear about nothing so terrible at our schools," Jones said.
Jones learned about a member of the girls basketball coaching staff and an alleged incident that occurred earlier this month. A statement from the Kenosha Police Department reads:
The Kenosha Unified School District has issued this statement to FOX6 News:
"At least the cops is doing their job and they're on it -- trying to find out or investigate what's really going on," a parent said.
Neither police nor the school district would explain the conduct involved, but a former student says what's known is enough to cause concern.
"Word of mouth can really shake up the whole foundation," former Indian Trail High School student Dallas Benavidez said.
"When you hear stuff like that, your first thought isn't like, 'is he guilty, or not?' Your first thought is, 'how can I protect my own?'" a parent said.
A Kenosha Unified School District spokesperson says only members of the girls basketball team and their parents have been notified of this investigation.
The coach in question has not been charged with any crime at this time.
