Virginia football coach suddenly goes missing amid team's undefeated season

A high school football coach in Virginia who has had a triumphant undefeated season thus far, has suddenly gone missing. 

Travis Turner, head football coach for Union High School, was listed as a missing person on Nov. 21 and was last seen on Nov. 20, Virginia State Police’s missing persons website stated.

Non-criminal complaint made

Virginia State Police special agents and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation for the Wytheville Field Office were sent to Turner’s residence on Thursday evening as part of an ongoing investigation.

Officials made it clear they were not at Turner’s residence to arrest him.

However, Turner was not at his home when investigators arrived.

In a since deleted Facebook post, Turner’s wife, Leslie Turner, wrote that he was "missing and that’s all we know." 

He was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt, gray sweatpants and glasses.

Search efforts involving K-9s, drones and ground crews have been underway across Wise County. 

Turner’s disappearance has stunned the community and the Union High School Bears, who entered the postseason with an 11-0 record.

He has been the head football coach at the public high school in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, since 2011.

No additional details about the circumstances of his disappearance or the nature of the initial complaint have been released. Officials have not indicated whether foul play is suspected.
