TRAGIC: 17-year-old passenger dead after single-vehicle rollover crash in Dodge County

DODGE COUNTY (WITI) -- A 17-year-old from Jackson died after a rollover crash in Dodge County late on Saturday, November 29th -- and many familiar with the location of the crash say it's often a challenge for inexperienced drivers. The victim has been identified as Lucas Gromowski.

The Dodge County Sheriff's Office says the wreck happened shortly before 9:00 p.m. at the intersection of County Highway A and County Highway E in the Town of Beaver Dam.

Officials say the vehicle was being driven eastbound on County Highway E by a 17-year-old from West Bend.  The vehicle failed to negotiate an “S” curve at the intersection with County Highway A.  The vehicle then entered the south gravel shoulder of the County Highway E.  The vehicle went airborne, landing in the northbound lane of County Highway A where the vehicle went airborne again causing the vehicle to roll over.

Gromowski was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver involved suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Robert Ganz came upon the crash as he was returning home on Saturday night.

"The car was flipped when I see it. (I thought) somebody had probably died. Had to be at lease 60 or 70 miles-an-hour I'd guess," Ganz said.

Ganz says the "S" curve is a recent addition to the highway -- put in five years ago to get people to slow down.

"They just don't respect the stop sign," Ganz said.

The crash is currently under investigation by the Dodge County Crash Investigation Team. Officials haven't said whether speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.
