Stalking suspect from Michigan arrested in Kewaskum

A man was arrested in Kewaskum after police say he was harassing and threatening a Kewaskum resident, and then drove to the village from Michigan.

Investigation

What we know:

According to the Kewaskum Police Department, the victim had been getting repeated messages from a person she did not know through multiple social media platforms. The messages had become increasingly threatening, and the person had obtained the victim’s telephone number and home address.

On Thursday, Aug. 20, the victim contacted police and reported that the person appeared to be traveling from Michigan toward Kewaskum. The person was continuing to send concerning messages to the victim as well as sharing his location through a mapping application, which appeared to indicate he was traveling toward Kewaskum.

Police were able to identify the person and his vehicle information. Using that information, officers were able to utilize a license plate reading camera to verify that his vehicle was traveling from Michigan into Wisconsin and towards the Village of Kewaskum.

Suspect arrested

What we know:

At about 5:12 p.m., officers found the suspect vehicle traveling west on Highway 28. The vehicle went into the Village of Kewaskum where officers conducted a high-risk traffic stop. Officers took the driver into custody without further incident. The driver was identified as a 28-year-old man from Michigan.

The suspect was arrested and booked into the Washington County Jail on one count of stalking and one count of disorderly conduct.

The Kewaskum Police Department was assisted by the Washington County Sheriff's Office and the Milwaukee Police Department’s Intelligence Fusion Center.
