Alternative lodging for Harley 110th

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- As Harley-Davidson's 110th anniversary celebration gets ready to kick off later this week -- some Milwaukee residents are still looking to rent out their homes for visitors to the city during the Labor Day weekend party.

"We have enough space for probably, I don`t know, three RVs depending on the length," Heather Thielen said.

Thielen is using Harley's big 110th anniversary celebration as a business opportunity. She has posted an ad online, advertising the five acres of space she has available behind her Brookfield home for campers.

Thielen estimates she has enough land for 40 tents.

"RVs are $75 per night and then camping is $50 per night," Thielen said.

It is an unconventional option for Harley riders -- something there will be no shortage of in Milwaukee this week.

For $1,000 a night, Russ Whitford is offering the chance to sleep overnight in McKinley Marina.

"It sleeps six comfortably but we`re saying only two couples. The only request we have is no motorcycle boots on the boat," Whitford said.

So far, Whitford hasn't booked any guests on board the "Tumultuous Uproar," but he believes the right customer is out there.

"There are lot of people who are sailors and motorcycle people. Quite a few of my friends are," Whitford said.

Among the dozens of homes available for rent online is Missy and Michael Kessler's home on N. 75th Street.

"We just figured we`d give it a shot. We actually would be staying in our basement so we would be renting out the two upstairs bedrooms and they can have all access to the house," Kessler said.

They hope their big selling point is their four-car garage with space for a dozen Harleys.
