STURTEVANT -- Some communities have cancelled their Fourth of July fireworks displays due to the extreme heat and dry conditions -- and the risk of sparking a fire.

The Sturtevant fireworks show has been a tradition for decades, and this year, it will go on as planned as Fireman's Park, despite the dry conditions.

"We were prepared to go on with the activities even if we didn't have the fireworks, but this is a bonus that we are going to have the fireworks too," Sturtevant Volunteer Fireworks Committee Chair, Linda Busha said.

On Tuesday, July 3rd, the South Shore Fire Department watered down the area where they will be launching the Sturtevant fireworks from.

The City of Burlington postponed Fourth of July fireworks.

"It is extremely dry here and it is just not worth the risk. We are holding it in a different area, putting the cannons in a different spot this year, and it is closer to some residential areas and some wooded and grass areas. I would rather not run the risk of having an accident, or something set on fire for the fireworks. We are erring on a side of caution," City of Burlington Mayor Robert Miller said.

City of Burlington Fire Chief Richard Lodle said postponing the show is a rare occurrence.

"I've been here since 1972 and I can never remember a dry season like this where the fireworks were postponed," Lodle said.

The fireworks display in the city of Burlington will be held at a later date, but the date hasn't  been set yet.

The fireworks display in the Village of Elm Grove has been rescheduled to Labor Day Weekend. Officials there say the launch site is in close proximity to wooded and grassy areas of the village -- posing a fire risk.
