SHEBOYGAN (WITI) -- Sheboygan Fire officials say testing continues at a sewer near the Thomas Industries Company on Illinois Avenue. An unidentified strong odor was reported coming from the sewer on Tuesday, April 15th. The plant was evacuated on Wednesday.
Sheboygan Fire officials requested the Sheboygan City DPW and Wisconsin Public Service to assist in the investigation on Tuesday.
The investigation was inconclusive, and testing has continued into Wednesday.
The plant was evacuated on Wednesday -- something Sheboygan Fire officials say was done as a precautionary measure due to elevated readings.
All Thomas Industries Company employees were safely evacuated -- and no one was injured.
The Sheboygan County Hazmat Team was called in to the scene. City DPW workers and WPS workers remain on scene.
Sheboygan Fire officials say testing and the investigation continues.
