Slenderman stabbing sentence

WAUKESHA COUNTY -- A judge on Thursday, December 21st will determine how long Anissa Weier will be committed to a mental facility after the so-called Slenderman stabbing in May of 2014. The family of the victim, Payton Leutner has submitted a letter to the judge ahead of sentencing.

The Leutner family is very private and still shaken by what happened more than 3 years ago. No one from the family will speak during the sentencing hearing, but there are some things they opted to share ahead of it.

Weier and Morgan Geyser told police they stabbed Leutner to please the fictional horror character Slenderman. They were 12 years old at the time. A spokesman for Leutner's family said they want people to remember who the real victim is in this case.

"There was only one little girl that was stabbed 19 times brutally," Stephen Lyons said. "In many ways, Payton is doing very well. She gets great grades in school. She has lots of friends. She's taking a number of advanced placement classes, and in that regard, she's doing very well. Having said that, the trauma of that horrific premeditated attempted murder will stay with her forever, and stay with the family forever."

In a victim impact letter to the judge, Leutner's mother Stacie wrote that Payton slept with scissors under her pillow after the attack. Below is the full letter submitted to the court:
