MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Music, food...and a strong sense of patriotism. All were available on the Summerfest grounds on the Fourth of July. Thousands celebrated the holiday there -- and some walked through the gates for free on Friday, July 4th.
What better way to celebrate America's birthday than down at the Summerfest grounds on a gorgeous day -- surrounded by good music, great food and an ice cold drink!
"It's the best there is man! Can't get any better than this!" a Summerfest attendee said.
The people poured into Summerfest on Friday morning, and military service members were admitted for free.
Veterans and active duty military members and three family members got in for free on the Fourth of July.
Army veteran Alex Bezruczko was one of those taking advantage of the free admission on Friday.
"That`s a great gesture. Shows appreciation to all the people that have served and are in the military. So it`s great, It`s wonderful," Bezruczko said.
Bezruczko was all smiles on this Fourth of July as he saw so many military members proudly wearing their red, white and blue.
"Freedom. You know, a lot of guys gave up their lives for that freedom. So, God Bless America," Bezruczko said.
Gino Rivera also served in the Army. He was ready to enjoy the day at Summerfest on Friday.
"Just to support those who support us -- to show up and enjoy the day and partake with the good people here in Milwaukee," Rivera said.
Military members were allowed in for free on Friday between the hours of noon and 3:00 p.m.
Motley Crue is headlining Summerfest on Friday night at the Marcus Amphitheater -- and band members are honoring military members.
Five wounded warriors had the opportunity take part in a private meet and greet before the show.
"It's great obviously for us here on Independence Day to spend some time with the band. It really just kind of seals it off and makes it very special," Major Dave Godwin with the United States Marine Corps. said.
"Motley Crue couldn't have been more gracious. They welcomed us with open arms," David Kraf said.
