Three men federally indicted charged in death of Paula Jackson

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- One day after 27 defendants were federally indicted on drug and money laundering charges, FOX6 News is learning more about the ringleaders and their alleged involvement in an unsolved homicide.

Three of the men federally indicted face charges in connection to a murder that happened in November of 2008.

FOX6 News caught up with someone who believes that unsolved murder has to do with her relative -- and FOX6 News has confirmed through a source that this is the case.

The murder of Paula Jackson that occurred at the Glory Daaze bar on November 16th, 2008 is the murder mentioned in the federal indictment.

Kevin R. Arms, John Bailey and Phillip Moffett are charged with causing death by discharge of a firearm.

A relative of Paula Jackson talked with FOX6 News -- but asked that her identity be protected.

She and Jackson were shot in a parking lot near 42nd and Burleigh. Jackson died at the scene.

To celebrate Jackson opening her own business, the 43-year-old and a relative pulled up to a downtown bar in Jackson's Chevy Suburban.

It was November 16th, 2008.

"Then we kept hearing the gunshots. All the windows got broken to her truck. I said, 'wow I think they`re shooting at us,'" the woman tells FOX6 News.

Before the women could even turn off the engine, Jackson's family member was hit.

"I was shot in the arm and inner leg as I ran for cover," the woman said.

The woman became emotional as she remembered looking over at the driver's seat and seeing Jackson lifeless -- her relative shot in the head.

The Medical Examiner's report says several .45 caliber casings were found on the ground near the car with seven rifle rounds found in the adjacent field.

"After so many years, I wondered if someone would ever be apprehended but I just prayed and prayed," the woman said.

Her prayers were answered with Wednesday's announcement of a major bust.

27 people have been indicted for a drug ring that allegedly brought more than 300 kilos of cocaine to Milwaukee.

Three of the suspects, including alleged kingpin Kevin R. Arms, John Bailey and Phillip Moffett also face charges in Jackson's death on November 16th, 2008.

"I never thought this day would come," the woman said.

When she thinks back to what happened in the parking lot near 42nd and Burleigh, the memory is something she'll never forget.

"Mentally, it`s still there. That will never go away. That picture will never go away," the woman said.
