EAGLE (WITI) -- Some Wisconsinites stepped back in time this holiday weekend -- all the way back to the 1800's at Old World Wisconsin.

On the historical site of Old World Wisconsin, blacksmith Perry Lourin entertains groups of people with his skills.

"Especially with the kids. They really enjoy seeing something they never really get a chance to see," said Lourin.

He's been a period interpreter for a year, but has 32 years of blacksmith experience under his belt. However, he too is stepping back in his craft.

"It`s so old-fashioned. Things I would do real easy I can`t, as you see, it`s all a little more work," said Lourin.

Folks of all ages enjoyed the shows inside each restored how and shop on the property, including Marina Barraza, who learned how wheel were made and repaired.

"I thought it was hard but it sounded kind of cool," said Barraza.

She's been here for a school trip, but this time she wanted to bring along her mom and dad.

"Last time I came here I really liked learning about it and they have new exhibits now," said Barraza.

They've also added new activities for the Fourth of July weekend.

"Some of them are specifically for fourth of July like the Tug-o-war and the pie eating contest," said Karl Kaphengst, period food and craft waste coordinator.

Kaphengst has been on site for nearly 30 years. His job? He shows everyone how they used to make yarn for clothes.

"To see those ah-ha moments when they it all clicks where their food is coming from or maybe something isn`t as different as they thought it would be," said Kaphengst.

Old World Wisconsin is open through Labor Day weekend. They also have events during the Christmas holiday, as well as an old-fashioned wedding happening on the grounds in September that the public is invited to attend.
