MLK Day in Milwaukee; local events held
MILWAUKEE - Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebrations were held in southeastern Wisconsin on Monday, Jan. 20.
Local perspective:
More than 500 people gathered at the Congregation Shalom to volunteer on Monday. It was a simple gesture aimed at giving back to neighbors.

Additionally, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center held its annual event for the 49th year. There were songs, drums and skits.

Through the arts and acts of service, people in Milwaukee are keeping King’s legacy alive.

"To make changes in our world to make our country come together we have to start with us," said Dee McCollum, the director of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center in Milwaukee. "I believe a change is going to come. We are that change."

It was a day where King's powerful message was heard, with the goal being to bring people of all walks of life together.
"Change is going to come," McCollum said.
