Milwaukee Co. D.A. to review police-involved shooting Tuesday

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office is expected on Tuesday to begin reviewing the case of a police-involved shooting that happened on Milwaukee's north side over the weekend.

A Milwaukee police officer shot and wounded a suspect armed with a 9mm handgun moments after the suspect fired rounds at a house near 44th and North late Saturday, July 13th.

The officer chased the armed suspect on foot westbound on North Avenue and northbound onto N. 45th Street where the suspect turned toward the officer with the gun in hand. The officer discharged his handgun to stop the threat, striking the suspect. The suspect was taken into custody and a semi-automatic handgun was recovered.

The suspect who was shot by the officer has since been released from the hospital.

The officer is a 32-year-old male with eight years of service. He is assigned to District 3 and was not injured during the incident.

As is standard operating procedure, the incident is under investigation by the Milwaukee Police Department and the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office. Additionally, per procedure, the officer involved in the incident has been placed on administrative duty pending the completion of the investigation.
