Mayor Barrett: Emergency curfew for teens in Milwaukee has ended

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett issued a proclamation on Monday, August 22nd which ends an emergency curfew in the entire City of Milwaukee for all persons under 18 years of age between 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.

The curfew was put in place in the wake of the officer-involved fatal shooting of Sylville Smith and because of the unrest in the Sherman Park neighborhood that followed.

To be clear, the city ordinance says the summer months curfew for teens is from 11:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m. every day. But from September 1st through May 31st, essentially during the school year, the curfew is 10:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
