House of Harley prepares for its dealership party
GREENFIELD (WITI) -- The trucks are moving in and the set-up has begun for the week-long party at the House of Harley-Davidson for the 110th anniversary.
"For eight days we will have people from all over the world here. It's busy, for us it's the longest and shortest week of our lives," says House of Harley-Davidson owner John Schaller.
A large portion of the set-up began early Monday morning when four blocks along Layton Avenue closed down.
"We have about 100 vendors. Now some of them bring their own tractor trailers, some bring their own trailers, but we will tent just about from 64th down to 60th the section of Layton that is closed for the eight days," says Schaller.
Despite the closure, many businesses along Layton Avenue are excited about the celebration.
Wendt's Pub and Grill officials say they have prime real estate near the House of Harley-Davidson.
They plan to extend their hours and triple their staff throughout the 8 days.
"All of the businesses around here are going to do as much business in one week as they probably do in half a year maybe more depending on what they have going. It's a welcome change," says Wendt's Pub and Grill Manager Sue Venus.
Verlo Mattress Factory on Layton Avenue has already seen some extra business from customers buying mattresses for visitors coming to town for the 110th.
"We're really excited for it. Harley is going to be great, it's great for the economy, for the area, for Greenfield businesses, it's going to be really good signage for everybody in the area," says Verlo Mattress Factory Assistant General Manager Darren Brylow.
House of Harley-Davidson anticipates seeing about 200,000 visitors, with the party kicking-off Wednesday morning.
Throughout the 110th celebration, House of Harley-Davidson will be hosting live music, food, bikes, and commemorative rides, and it's free to get into the party!
The stretch of 60th to 64th along Layton Avenue will re-open Tuesday, September 3rd at 6am.
