Kenosha to celebrate Harley 110th with festival, parade

KENOSHA (WITI) -- Harbor Thunder, a free festival celebrating the anniversary of Harley-Davidson, will take place along Kenosha’s Lake Michigan shore on Wednesday, August 28th  between 5:00 p.m. and 11:00 pm.

Celebration Place – where 54th and 56th Streets meet Lake Michigan – will be the location of this fest, featuring a Harley parade, live music, food and beverages, and family activities.

From August 28th through September 1st, Kenosha will once again be a home-away-from-home to thousands of Harley-Davidson enthusiasts from around the country and the world who are visiting Wisconsin for the Harley 110th Anniversary in Milwaukee. On August 28th, Kenosha welcomes these riders to our own celebration.

The 2013 event is once again a fundraiser that benefits local charities served by the Kiwanis Club of Western Kenosha, whose members organized Harbor Thunder with the support of the City of Kenosha, Kenosha Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, Uke’s Harley-Davidson and the Kenosha Area H.O.G. Chapter.

The Harbor Thunder Parade of Harleys kicks off the festivities with a rumble and roar as bikes line up at Uke’s Harley-Davidson (east of I-94 at Hwy. K and East Frontage Road) starting at 3:30 pm. The Parade will step off from Uke’s at 5:30 pm and travel east on Hwy. K, then north on Hwy. H and then east on Hwy. 158/52nd Street to the Harbor Thunder grounds. Area residents are encouraged to grab their lawn chairs and line the parade route to watch this unique site. In 2008, the Harbor Thunder Parade of Harleys drew over 1,000 motorcycles that stretched the full 7.5 miles along Hwy. 158 to the lakefront – an amazing spectacle!

At Celebration Place, live bands including Trip and God’s Outlaw will entertain crowds throughout the evening. Trip takes the stage at 6:00 pm and God’s Outlaw at 8:00 pm. Great food from local vendors will serve up dinner and snack fare beginning at 5:00pm, while a beverage garden will offer soft drinks, water, beer and wine. Family-friendly activities include giant inflatable slides and “bounce houses”, hot air balloon rides, and temporary tattoos.
