JEFFERSON COUNTY (WITI) -- Jefferson County Sheriff's officials say new information has come to light regarding a cold case dating back to 1947.
Officials say information has been provided to them regarding the case of Georgia Jean Weckler. They are now searching an area on the far northwest side of Janesville.
Weckler was eight years old when she went missing from her home on May 1st, 1947.
Weckler was last seen being dropped off by a neighbor after school at her residence on Highway 12, a rural home outside of Fort Atkinson.
Officials say the girl was observed getting mail from the mailbox, but she had also stated that she wanted to go into the woods to pick some flowers for a May basket. She was never seen again.
Jefferson County Sheriff's officials are working with several agencies on this case. No additional details have been released at this time.
