CEDARBURG (WITI) -- The "Fourth of July Hometown Celebration" in Cedarburg is billed as the largest of its kind in southeastern Wisconsin -- and it may also be one of the sweetest celebrations around!

"This is a pretty big deal. This is a big parade. It's pretty exciting," Jessica Steinbring said.

Cedarburg's Fourth of July Hometown Celebration had folks lining the streets of Washington Avenue on Friday, July 4th.

"People I never met before, but we're all having a lotta fun!" Steinbring said.

About 10,000 people were expected to show up and see dozens of displays driving through downtown Cedarburg.

The tractors, trucks, performers...and even puppies had people waving -- but when their hands were free, they were busy scrambling for candy!

"It's crazy! We went through 60 pounds of candy already!" a parade participant said.

It was a busy Fourth of July for the folks on the floats!

"It's a fantastic workout," Zach Deming said.

Deming did his best to stay in candy-sharing shape.

"We have to get handful after handful, and the kids are so demanding!" Deming said.

And it wasn't just the kids going crazy for the candy!

"It is all about the candy!" a parade attendee said.

"We had to skip in front of like, five rows of people to sit at the edge so he could dodge out for the candy. And he did it and I helped, but we share," a parade attendee said.

But as it turned out -- it wasn't all about the candy.

"Cheese! Oh -- and cheese! String cheese!" a parade attendee said.

After the parade, thousands made their way to Cedar Creek Park -- where they enjoyed a day-long picnic full of all kinds of activities.

That will be followed by a fireworks display.
