Menomonee Falls HS gives back to community and wins rock concert
MENOMONEE FALLS (WITI) -- A good turn deserves another -- and on Friday, Menomonee Falls High School students got the pay-off.
Shortly after 2 p.m. Friday, February 27th, the excitement was building at Menomonee Falls High School -- and all for the British pop/rock/R&B band Rixton.
Most were captivated by the music -- a few, including the beaming Natalie Suetholz, got to meet the guys before the performance.
"Oh my! I'm so giddy right now it was amazing! I got to hug them briefly. They were like 'we love you too' and 'how are you' and stuff," said Seutholz.
So why the British invasion at this school? Well, the school was one of 469 southeaster Wisconsin schools to take part in Goodwill's Fall Haul Donation Challenge.
Students and the communities donated items to the charity during November on behalf of their preferred school, and the winner,Menomonee Falls, donated almost 29,000 items and got the band to come sing at the school.
"Donations were very important. They're obviously the lifeblood of any Goodwill store and donation center because without the donations we just don't have the sales that we need in order to support our mission -- and our mission is to help people find employment," said Cheryl Lightholder, Goodwill spokeswomen.
All of the schools combined donated almost 400,000 items.
Tori Cichantek is a student and also works at Goodwill. She also got to meet the band.
"Oh, it was cool. They were very polite, really nice guys -- fun, you know. They were jumping up and down, said they loved doing stuff like this. So it was really nice of them to come out and do this for us," said Cichantek.
Although Menomonee Falls got the grand prize, two other schools came really close. Germantown and Oconomowoc high schools will each receive a $500 gift card.
As for Rixton, their debut album comes out in early March.
