Fredonia police shooting; man accused pleads guilty to 4 charges

Kenneth Harter, who was shot and wounded by a detective in Fredonia in June during the execution of a search warrant in an internet crimes against children investigation, pleaded guilty on Monday, Dec. 9 to four of seven charges against him. 

Harter pleaded guilty to the following: 

  • Battery or threat to judge, prosecutor or law enforcement officer
  • First-degree recklessly endangering safety
  • Possession of child pornography (two counts)

Three other charges of child porn possession were dismissed and read into the court record. 

Harter is scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 19, 2025.

The execution of the search happened on County Highway E between Pioneer Drive and Jay Road on the morning of Wednesday, June 7, 2023.

Ozaukee County police shooting

During the attempted arrest, a struggle ensued, and Harter armed himself with an edged weapon, according to the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office. He was shot by a detective. Harter was taken to the hospital in serious condition. 

An Ozaukee County detective was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
