MILWAUKEE -- Frank Brown, the man accused in the murder of Luis Santiago at the La Piazza on Milwaukee's east side back on May 24th, 2011 was sentenced to 20 years in prison and five years of extended supervision on Wednesday, June 20th. Before the sentenced was handed down, Brown begged for mercy, and so did his family and friends.

La Piazza has closed since the shooting.

27-year-old Brown was brought in for sentencing and Santiago's family asked for a harsh penalty.

Brown was also sentenced Wednesday to five years in prison and two years of extended supervision for the attempted first-degree intentional homicide by use of a dangerous weapon against Luis' brother, Antonio Santiago.

"I'm just lucky that he only had six bullets, or I would be dead too. It's just something that should've never happened, especially over some simple nonsense as a beer," Antonio Santiago said.

Antonio Santiago said he recalls his brother chugging a beer at Brown's table that night, which resulted in an argument, a bar brawl and second later, two men shot and one dead.

"I'm very remorseful and I wish I would've got this security of the establishment involved," Brown said.

Brown's friends spoke on his behalf and pleaded for a light sentence, saying Brown is a good character who made a bad decision.

"That's not the person I know. The person I know is a step dancer, is a funny young man, a sports fan, a friend -- a friend who was there to help me move when I moved down to Chicago," Brown's friend said.
