Riders take part in ride to honor firefighters

GREENFIELD (WITI) -- The Harley-Davidson 110th Anniversary Celebration includes three days of commemorative rides. Veterans and police officers have already been honored. On Friday, August 30th, firefighters were paid tribute.

The ride started at the House of Harley in Greenfield by riding under a large American flag held help by firefighting equipment. The journey took riders along the lakefront and stopping at the Lake Express ferry terminal on S. Lincoln Memorial Dr. Proceed from the ride go to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

“I have a good friend in Illinois with muscular dystrophy so it’s been kind of a soft spot in our heart for a long time...And I enjoy motorcycling so anytime you can put camaraderie and a good cause together it’s a good thing," said rider Alan Mannel.

Like Mannel, David Litton is also a firefighter and Harley rider committed to the cause.

“Muscular dystrophy is a charity that fire services across the country chooses to support. It’s been a long history of doing so and just a great event to raise money for that effort," said Litton.

Out in the water, the Milwaukee Fire Department fire boat provided a special demonstration. Some Harley riders from other countries say they're just taking it all in.

"It’s not the first time in Milwaukee, but the first time on an anniversary like this so," said Dirk Musstopf.
