Family says eight-year-old boy the second to lose his life after hit-and-run crash at 39th & Hadley

MILWAUKEE -- Family members have confirmed for FOX6 News that an eight-year-old boy injured in a hit-and-run crash has now died. He is the second person to lose his life as a result of this crash, which happened on Friday, May 27th near 39th and Hadley.

Danielle Triggs

Officials with the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office on Monday, May 30th identified the other victim as 46-year-old Danielle Triggs. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Family members tell FOX6 News eight-year-old Taeshawn Griffin passed away on Sunday night, May 29th.

"He was a fun kid to be around. The life of the party," Markita Mcghee, a cousin said.

Family members gathered for a vigil Monday evening to remember Triggs and Griffin, her grandson -- and to ask the community for help identifying the driver of the vehicle that hit them.

"Somebody recognizes those people and the community demands they turn themselves in," Tracy Dent, community activist said.

The fatal hit-and-run crash happened on Friday afternoon.

"I was on the phone with my sister while she was driving, going to the park. A fun day in the sun turned into tragedy," Laurice Triggs, Danielle Triggs' sister said.

"It`s kind of still at a real raw point where a lot of emotions are going on. We have to do something. As a community, we have to rally together to try to stop these types of behaviors," Tory Lowe, community activist said.

Danielle Trigg's 26-year-old son and his 28-year-old girlfriend were injured and taken to Froedtert Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Four children were also inside the car -- ages three, five, seven and eight. They were taken to Children's Hospital -- and again, family members tell FOX6 News the eight-year-old boy has passed away.

The crash was a hit-and-run and police say the vehicle at fault was stolen a month prior in Racine.

Police say shortly after 3:30 p.m. Friday, a stolen Audi Q7 was traveling westbound on Hadley, going at least double the speed limit. The driver blew through a stop sign, T-boning a 1999 Hyundai Elantra that was traveling north on 39th.

"My family didn't deserve that," Mcghee said.

"These are innocent lives being affected due to a dangerous game that is being played with the youth and cars. The stealing, the carjacking is up 400% now. It`s becoming a deadly game," Lowe said.

The driver of that stolen vehicle and at least one other person ran from the scene after the crash.

Lowe said he believes what happened at 39th and Hadley on Friday is the result of extreme poverty and neglect for our young people.

"They`re coming up with ways to satisfy their needs and it`s causing innocent people to pass and innocent people to be harmed," Lowe said.
