Demolition of WIS 100 NB bridge over I-94 to begin

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Work will begin to demolish the northbound span of WIS 100 over I-94 at 10 p.m. Thursday, December 5th. This is the first of four nights of work to be done to complete the removal of the bridge.

All traffic along WIS 100 was routed onto the southbound span earlier this week. Work will continue Friday night and again next Monday and Tuesday during the overnight hours.

The demolition of the bridge will be similar to the Greenfield Avenue bridge project. The deck material will be removed Thursday night and Friday night with the removal of the bridge beams taking place on Monday and Tuesday. The on ramp to I-94 eastbound will be closed long term on Monday as part of this project.

Detours will be posted for the freeway closures. Thursday night is the only night that will experience a full closure of I-94 at WIS100. Other nights will have directional full closures with a single lane open in the opposite direction.

The primary detour for eastbound traffic is at WIS100 to Greenfield Avenue. The primary detour for westbound traffic is in the Zoo Interchange to Bluemound Rd. and back to WIS100. The ramp to westbound I-94 along WIS100 will remain open allowing the southbound traffic to access westbound I-94.

As always, take alternate routes when possible. Drive carefully and stay alert in the work zone.
