Cooper's Hawk stuck in downtown building is rescued

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The wildlife manager at the Wisconsin Humane Society was called into action on Tuesday, March 18th to rescue a Cooper's Hawk in a downtown Milwaukee building.

The hawk somehow managed to get inside the building above Mo's Irish Pub at Wisconsin and Plankinton. Students at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee classrooms across the street noticed the bird was behind the glass -- and reached out to the humane society.

Scott Diehl showed up on the sixth floor where the hawk was located -- and initially set a trap. But that failed to lure the hawk to safety. Diehl later captured the hawk using a net.

Diehl tells FOX6 News the hawk appeared to be in good condition albeit a little dehydrated. The hawk was going to be taken to the Wisconsin Humane Society where it would get a full medical evaluation and recovery before it is released back into the wild.
