Contact 6: Coupons
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- FOX6's Contact 6 says trying to save money could cost a lot! What looks like a coupon could turn out to be a total scam!
Saving money is big business these days, with companies and corporations pumping out millions of coupons daily to help consumers save cash and encouraging them to spend money on their product.
Clipping coupons that come directly from stores is the best bet. Online coupons may offer great deals, but the Better Business Bureau says consumers may pay a steep price for turning over a name, email address and phone number to random coupon websites, whether they look legit or not.
In some cases, the personal information will be sold to third-party companies that will send spam through text messages, emails and even phone calls at all hours of the day.
Others send out coupons that consumers don't realize are fakes until a cashier rejects them.
FOX6's Contact 6 advises watching out for big discounts of 50% off or more, since most legitimate coupons are between 10% and 15% off. Also -- never pay for coupons.
Contact 6 also advises comparing a coupon against a database of fake coupons.
