GLENDALE (WITI) -- Students at Nicolet High School were treated like stars on Tuesday, September 3rd, as the red carpet was rolled out for students on the first day of school.

The Hollywood-style welcome is a tradition at the school.

Teachers and other staff members applauded students as they entered the building.

"We do this every year, to let our students know how important they are to us and it's just a great way to start off the school year knowing that we're going to have a wonderful year. It couldn't start off any better," Nicolet Superintendent Dr. Robert Kobylski said.

However, Nicolet staff weren't just celebrating the first day of school. They were also celebrating the completion of a construction project.

"We were very fortunate. We had a very tight construction cycle but as you can see everything was completed in enough time for us to have this important ceremony today," Dr. Kobylski said.

Three years ago, water poured into the building, causing $14 million in damage.

School leaders decided to fix the problem by reconstructing the entire parking lot, and digging a pond and ditches around the school to prevent flooding in the future.

Everything was finished just in time for the first day of school!
