NAPERVILLE, Illinois – An Amtrak conductor was wounded in a shooting Tuesday afternoon, May 16th at the Naperville train station, according to WGN.
It happened around 4:45 p.m.
Police say the 45-year-old conductor was outside of the stopped train when a passenger inside at the time open fired.
The conductor was struck in the abdomen.
The suspect, who is in his 70s, and from Wisconsin, was attempting to fire again when other passengers on the train stepped in and subdued him. He was taken into custody, and a handgun was recovered.
The conductor was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
In a statement, Amtrak confirmed the shooting saying:
No motive has been released in the shooting. The investigation is ongoing.
The identities of the victim and suspect have not been released.
