Charged & on the run: Darrin Malone faces felony murder in gas station shooting

Darrin Malone

WAUKESHA COUNTY (WITI) -- 38-year-old Darrin Malone is now charged with felony murder (party to a crime) for his alleged role in the shooting death of 65-year-old Saeed Sharwani of Brookfield. Sharwani was working at a Citgo gas station in Waukesha when he was fatally shot during a robbery on Tuesday, January 13th.

Malone is the only one of three suspects not in custody in connection with this case. Police arrested 19-year-old Kenneth Thomas, a convicted felon in West Allis less than 10 hours after the shooting. They believe Thomas is the person who fired the shots that killed Sharwani. Police also arrested 23-year-old Jerica Cotton. They say she was the getaway driver in this case.

Malone is now on the run -- and considered to be "armed and dangerous."

According to the criminal complaint, Malone supplied the masks that were used in the crime. Thomas told police "Malone was behind him (when they walked into the gas station) and that the clerk started freaking out and so did he. Those stated that the clerk ran out as he climbed over the counter. Thomas stated that the clerk then came around and grabbed him and the next thing he knew, the gun went off." The complaint indicates that Malone asked Thomas "if he did it on purpose and Thomas said no."

Thomas also told police in the complaint that he and Malone had committed several other robberies -- including a liquor store, bank, a gas station and a store.

The owner of the Citgo gas station has offered up to a $5,000 reward to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest of Malone. Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts are asked to call the Waukesha Police Department at 262-524-3820.
