Caledonia boy wins national Google Doodle contest

CALEDONIA -- Google has named seven-year-old Dylan Hoffman of Caledonia the National Winner in this year's Doodle 4 Google competition on Thursday, May 17th.

Dylan attends The Prairie School in Racine. He created a doodle that was chosen from over 114,000 entries. His doodle will be displayed on the Google homepage on Friday, May 18th for millions to see. His artwork will also be featured on a special edition Crayola 64 Box -- the first time ever that a child's artwork has appeared on Crayola's iconic box. In addition, Dylan will take home a $30,000 college scholarship and a $50,000 technology grant for his school.

In record-breaking numbers, the public voted for their favorite doodle from the 50 State Winners to select the National Finalists. Google then chose Dylan as the National Winner.

Google also named four National Finalists during the ceremony:

All 50 State Finalists in the contest will have their doodles displayed in a special exhibit in the New York Public Library from May 18-July 19. In addition, each state’s best doodles will be exhibited at local museums across the country over the summer.

The annual competition, open to K-12 students across the U.S., challenged students to design a Google logo inspired by the theme "If I could travel in time, I'd visit..."  Entries in this year's competition reflected a fascination with technology in the future and a curiosity with the past.
