Brewers hit record numbers as fans flock to Miller Park for 2015-2016 tickets
MILWAUKEE (WITI) — Below freezing temperatures, a bitterly cold wind and long hours -- that's why the dedicated Milwaukee Brewers fans put up with just to get their hands on some 2015-2016 tickets.
They are the coveted tickets hundreds want for a chance to watch the Brewers take to the field in the first game of the season. But before they could get there hands on them, they waited in line for hours.
"It's one of the few Brewer related events going on in the winter time and I'm a huge Brewer fan," said a Brewer fan.
A tradition for so many, at Miller Park it's all about the comradely. Zach Zwadzich and his friends were first in line.
"It's just a thing that we do. Now between me and my friends it's kind of a race to see who can get here first. It's just a fun thing we do every year," Said Zwadzich.
Zwadzich hasn't missed an opening day in the last 10 years.
"It's nice to know that we can come here and at least secure a spot for opening day," said Zwadzich.
And after what felt like days, fans filed through Miller Park growing anticipation until finally the moment they were waiting for!
"It's a good day, it's a very good day," said a Brewer fan.
Opening day is just a few weeks away and no matter how cold it is out, dedicated fans are a sign that spring is just around the corner.
As of 3 p.m. on Saturday, 101,000 tickets had been sold, tied for the second-highest sold in a single day in team history. The total of 101,000 is 10,000 more than last year on the first day of sales for individual games. (NOTE: The franchise record for tickets sold in a single day is 104,000, achieved on the first day of sales in 2009.)
