Bob Uecker, Make-A-Wish; partnership brought miles of smiles
MILWAUKEE - You cannot forget Bob Uecker's legendary voice. But he also touched lives in sometimes unseen ways.
Uecker touched many lives
What we know:
Uecker has been helping sick children while he himself was battling his own serious health issues – cancer.
Sam Last survived brain surgery – a tumor when he was just 1 ½ years old. Then at 6, his wish came true. Last sang the national anthem at the Brewers game – and then met Bob Uecker.

"He loved kids. He was really good with me. I’ll never forget it," Last said.

Uecker interviewed Last live on the radio.

"I tried to put on my best radio voice. He told me to say hello to everybody, and I got up to the mic and I’m like, "Hello, everybody." Nice and enthusiastic," Last said. "Listening to it now, there’s a lot of stuff that I missed in the original like him asking me if I wanted a Miller Lite. I had no idea what he was talking about. I was 6."
Partnership with Make-A-Wish
The backstory:
Make-A-Wish Wisconsin CEO Patti Gorsky said Uecker helped many kids like Sam Last. He helped the charity raise thousands of dollars – and fulfilled wish after wish.
"He helped create some joy during the toughest times in these kids lives. They are kids with critical illnesses. And he brought light and hope and laughter to these kids and their families," Gorsky said.

Last is now a senior at the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) studying mechanical engineering.
"I really cherish that moment. Because now there’s lots of people who will never get the chance to meet him at all. And I got to have a very personal moment with him," Last said.
